Spring Camp 2007Brookfield Scout Camp, Moores Valley Rd, Wainuiomata
Wednesday 14 – Sunday 18 November 2007 $8 per night tenting or $12 per night hard accommodation
Spring has sprung, and Sumer is icumen in, so it’s time to pull the tents out of winter storage, shake out the clothing, and clean the rust off the armour! This camp is to bring together MLHNZ members, and all other interested people, to immerse themselves in Living History, share information, enjoy workshops, combat, and each other’s company in a relaxed environment. The challenge is to bring your best historical (800-1547CE) gear along and show it off. And learn to make stuff, do some martial activities, and to fit in all the cooking, eating and drinking. As usual, there will be archery, foot combat, and four days of cooking, eating, drinking, cooking, eating, drinking, eating, drinking and workshops on all of the above. If you are keen to run a workshop of any kind please contact us. The camp will be a Living History, no plastics event. A hard accommodation area where modern stuff can be used is hidden away on the other side of trees. MLH rules for conduct, costume and equipment apply. Have a look at Camping with MLHNZ for details, or contact info@livinghistory.org.nz for information. If you are not familiar by what we mean by “Living History”, please come to our “Open Home” on Saturday afternoon. If you have medieval style costume, you are welcome to stay for dinner. People will be on site from the afternoon on Wednesday 14 November, through to Sunday, 18 November. Wednesday is totally optional, Thursday is hoped to be the main setup day, with Friday & Saturday being two days of real fun, and Sunday the pack-up day. Those who have to work on weekdays are welcome to set up and join us in the evenings. Accommodation: Medieval tents only. We have spare spaces in period tents available, and some hard accommodation hidden away. If you need to make use of these, please book early to save yourself a space. There will be many different periods represented and we will try to keep the tents/encampments in rough period zones. For example, last year the Vikings were in the South and the late Medieval were in the North. This event is fully self-catered You will need to organise all your own food, drink etc. There is potable water, toilets and showers on site. Cooking will be done using medieval gear over an open fire, though there are modern facilities in the hard accommodation if you are desperate. We recommend organising cooking with a group to cut down on the amount of food and gear that people need to bring. Combat: All combat activities will be under MLH combat rules. We hope to run combat authorisations over the weekend, make sure you’ve brushed up on the rules and have all the right bits of armour beforehand!
